Rare, Vintage, Bold and Vibrant, Oversized, Morris Louis 1989 Exhibition Lithograph Poster, entitled, “Point of Tranquility”. This piece, part of his 1959 series, “Themes and Variations”, was published in France for The Hirschorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C.
Morris, (1912- 1962) was an American, Modernist Abstract Expressionist artist, who worked, during the 1950s, with a collective of now-iconic masters such as Mark Rothko and Jackson Pollack, to create an art movement known as the “Color Field Paintings.” This collaborative genre was the premise for current Washington, D.C based art movement known as “The Washington Color School”.
This particular piece is an original Abstract, Expressionist lithograph print, custom framed, in a modern forest green painted metal frame with glass.
This focal work of art measures:
41 1/2" W x 35" H x 1" D.
The artwork is in very nice vintage condition. No sun fading, pinholes or wrinkling. It was professionally framed and archivally mounted on acid-free board.
For accuracy, l have posted extreme close-up photos, in full sunlight, of one area with 2 faint dime size areas of discoloration Photos 7 and 8. (Same area, different angle and sizes) and of some wear to the paint on the metal frame. Photos 9 and 10.
The metal frame has some minute scratches, not gouges, mostly to the side of the exterior green paint and a couple of pinpoints as photographed.
Also photographed is one of approximately 12 metal clips (photo 11) holding the frame together to show how easily it can be removed.
The frame could be used as-is.
However, it can easily be restored to like new and to your personal preference of color and finish...matte, satin or gloss)
A framer or re-finisher can easily separate the artwork from the frame, and custom refinish it at a nominal cost.
It’s an extraordinary addition to any art collection and it’s being offered at below market price less
