This beautiful Jasperware Box by Wedgewood features a signature motif of Greek/Roman mythology, and is stamped on the underside with the marks of "Wedgewood Made in England". This piece is in beautiful condition for the age and is a true classic from the House of Wedgewood. Perfect for jewelry, candy or mini-utilitarian items that require a beautiful holder.
Josiah Wedgwood's abilities got him noticed, and in 1765 he made a complete set of dishes for Queen Charlotte. His business grew rapidly with the notoriety from his claims of being the potter to the Queen. Jasperware was developed in the 1770s, this beautiful pattern has a matte base layer with raised, usually white, decorations. The base layer is often light blue, but it can also be green, black, dark blue, yellow, and other shades.
