Mid 20th. Century porcelain Chinese planter with a dramatic hand painted wrap around mountain and water scene - Shan Shui. The good sized glazed jardinière features a decorative blue upper and lower border with a continuous scene that includes the sea or a lake, traditonal villages, sweeping mountains and pine trees with small traditional houses, and a few figures, one solitary fishermanon a boat, others observing. Very traditionally Chinese in style - shan shui - literal translation - mountains and water.
This style of planter is less often seen than the traditional goldfish bowl/planters or jardinieres.
A lovely piece of Chinoiserie that will fit into many areas of the home or office.
