Vintage oil painting on canvas mounted on board by William Apthorp Adams, image size 24 x 36. Adams was a Cincinnati artist 1872-1952 who studied with Duveneck. Signed lower left dated 1912. Original frame, good condition.
William Apthorp Adams, 245 Fifth Street, a retired artist and newspaperman, died Wednesday, July 16, 1952, at his home.
The son of Michael Cassley Adams, and an artist mother, Frances Hall Adams, whose best-known painting is “Custer’s Last Stand.” Mr. Adams was born in Cincinnati, Ohio. He studied art with Frank Duveneck at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cincinnati, and in Antwerp and Brussels, Belgium and Paris.
During his active life he was an artist on the Cincinnati Inquirer, and was art director in New York for the New York American and New York Mirror.
