A large, impressive pair of holy water fonts of Jesus and Mary. Jesus and Mary are gilded and mounted on green marble and a thick brass backing. Water founts on the bottom of each. Made in Spain.
One the back of each is marked (English translation) “A.Y.A Santamaria, Maker of Bronzes, Barcelona.” Also, a paper seller tag.
On the back of the Jesus font is engraved “Marqueses De Alella 1929”. A Marquesas is a royal title just below Duke and Duchess. This Marquesas was a famous woman in Barcelona who did a lot of work in the community.
Measures 13 ½” x 10” overall, face 9 ½” x 10”. Great condition, no cracks or damage. Some wear, see photos. Very heavy.
