Emile was a famous French furniture designer who was a prominent and influential figure in the Art Deco movement. Born in Paris, France in 1879, he was the son of a decorating contractor and took over the family business when he was in his twenties. His pieces often featured sleek designs, exotic woods, and extremely fine artistry. They became symbols of the luxury and modernity of the Art Deco style. During the peak of his time, post-World War I, he was a highly sought-after designer. The tops of this side table consist of four-book match veneers of African Mahogany Ribbon Sapele wood, given its distinctive appearance. Following true Art Deco style, the natural lines of the wood convene in the middle, creating a lovely triangular patchwork design. The circular top rests upon four curved legs that have been covered in black lacquer, which contrasts nicely against the rich brown of the Sapele wood. The bottom is a miniature copy of the top and sits on four spherical chrome balls. Following Ruhlman's works, this table is symmetrical, geometric, streamlined, and simple. Every detail has been meticulously carved, transforming it into a work of art. It would look stunning in any room, particularly a sitting room, office, or entryway. See less
