This is a pair of matted French Mid-Century fashion designs by the iconic Balenciaga. They date to 1955 and originally came from a haute couture fashion publication from that time. They are dynamic glamourous designs for evening attire. They were illustrated (signed and dated) by Pierre Mourgue, one of the leading fashion illustrators in Paris in the 20th century. He widely contributed to the Gazette du Bon Ton, the premier Paris fashion magazine in the early century and later was one of a select few who worked for French Vogue Magazine. He imparted a sense of wit and flair in his drawings and he was an affectionate observer of life and fun. Here he features Balenciaga's evening designs in a painterly manner against a brilliant red dramatic background! Note the dress designs. One is a simple shirt-waisted design done in a luxurious teal tone fabric which reflects a sheen and is to be worn with a full luxurious draped coat. Note too the long evening gloves! The other design showcases a multilayered black and teal feathered skirted dress with a pink under-layer. It is shown with a simple "tank" like top. Note too the long evening gloves!
