The artwork … Read more Woman Figure is an original pencil drawing artwork on paper realized by Paul Baudry. Good condition and aged. The artwork represents a beautiful figure of woman. Hand-signed in pencil on the back of the drawing. Paul Jacques Aimé Baudry (La Roche-sur-Yon, November 7, 1828 - Paris, January 17, 1886) was a French painter. He was one of the most famous representatives of the ''academic painting'' of the Second Empire. He entered the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts at 16 thanks to a municipal scholarship. In 1850 he won the Prix de Rome with William Bouguereau. An admirer of Correggio, he was a fresco specialist, but he also painted portraits and historical paintings. Napoleon III entrusted him with the decoration of the foyer of the Opéra, which kept him busy for ten years. His pupil was Charles Mengin. In 1854 he frescoed the Hôtel Fould, the Hôtel Matignon in 1863 and the Hôtel Pava; he also participated in the decorations of the Castle of Chantilly. Member of the Académie des beaux-arts in 1870, he traveled to the East and died before he could do the decoration of the Panthéon in Paris. Paul Baudry is buried in the Parisian cemetery of Père-Lachaise. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
