A. Tofanelli, P. Fontana, “Gran Cratere marmoreo, con baccanale” (Big marble Crater, with Bacchanal). Image Dim: cm 48x33, Dim: cm 59 x 44; Passepartout Dim: cm 69 x 49. Precious Etching on copper: Hand-watercolor subject on black ink bottom. Designed by Agostino Tofanelli (draftsman) and engraved by Pietro Fontana (engraver). Signed on plate. In Excellent condition, including Passepartout. Precious Hand-watercolor Etching representing an antique marble crater with a Bacchanal decoration. From "Illustrazioni de'Monumenti scelti Borghesiani già esistenti nella Villa sul Pincio (\.)date ora per la prima volta in luce dal cav. Gio. Gherardo De Rossi e da Stefano Piale sotto la guida di Vincenzo Feoli\.", by Ennio Quirino Visconti, published in Rome, 1821. From the Second Tome of this wonderful set of etchings representing the main antique statues and antiquities collected by the Prince Borghese in his Villa in Pincio Hill. Remarkable artists like Luigi Cunego, Gio. Batta Leonetti, Pietro Bettelini, Gio. Brunetti, Giovanni Ottaviani, Angelo Campanella, Pietro Fontana contributed. Drawings are, above all, by Agostino Tofanelli, Bernardino Nocchi, Domenico de Angelis, Teodoro Matteini. The Borghese Collection is known to be the most important antique statue one, after the Torlonia Collection in Rome. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
