From the early era of French commode making in the transitional style, this Regence commode carries the still original, heavily veined and deeply colored marble top. The slab shows the old hand sawn marks at back and has survived the last centuries with some character lines including old fissures and chips from long use. The images here do not adequately reflect the intense colors from oxblood to chocolate marked with white veining. The stone was cut to conform to the serpentine sided case and has a molded edge.
Below, the rococo ormolu leafage style pulls and escutcheons mount fronts with walnut veneers framed with mitered corners. The undulating lower apron is mounted with a shell and leafage ormolu. Circa 1710+.
Old repairs commensurate with age and use.

These have distinct wear and patina from being around for a hundred or hundreds of years. You can see the details in the photographs included in the listing. Most collectors would love these as-is, so I wanted to point out the flaws ahead of purchase. less
