Vintage chinoiserie console table designed by decorating legend Mario Buatta (1935-2018) for John Widdicomb in 1978. Pagoda motif with ornate incised and lacquer decoration in Coramandel style, manufactured mark on underside reads "1978 - John Widdicomb - Grand Rapids".
Note: In 1858, the Widdicomb furniture company was founded in Grand Rapids, Michigan... In 1970, the name was changed to the John Widdicomb Company. In 2002, Widdicomb went out of business; design and manufacturing rights for John Widdicomb Company were acquired by Stickley in August 2002. Stickley continues to offer pieces under the John Widdicomb Collection (Wiki).
