This usable foot warmer would have been placed under the table with fire embers inside the warmer and the lid put on top so heat could permeate through the pretty diamond shapes on the top and warm your feet as they rested on top of the foot warmer. This was made to be attractive as well as very useful.

Cast iron Enamel models were found in the houses of the Bourgeoise, and were made to be beautiful in their detail. These foot warmers were obviously made for use before the luxury of central heating. They would often have been used by ladies whilst they were sitting sewing or reading, or even taken with them on carriage journeys to make sure their feet did not get too chilled. It has a mark of “10” on the bottom.

This is in great antique condition, there are some minor rusty bits where the enamel has been chipped but this is commensurate with the age of the item and does not detract in any way from a stunning vintage piece, it is still a solid usable piece. The wooden handle has a lovely aged patina, with a couple of ancient wood worm holes. All this just adds to the great character of the foot warmer and accentuates its antique charm.

These are beautiful antique decorative items which look great filled with flowers or just as a fireside decoration. Just beautiful.

This Foot Warmer was found at the Les Puces de Saint-Ouen in Paris over 25 years ago.
