China, Minguo, richly carved Hongmu with openwork decoration, central reserve on the backrest representing figures flankes by dragons chasing fireball, dragon decoration, on arms and legs.
The seat is solid hardwood with a warm coffee brown color with tinges of red, the center back panel depicts two carved, elongated writhing dragon with a scaled body meeting in the center. All openwork panel back, arms and skirts. Each arm is in the form of a scaled dragon, and it's front seat rail carved in the form of Shishi the lion, as if guarding the seat for its master. The back rail, underneath the arms also in the form of Shishi.
The animals depicted have symbolic meanings: dragon - as benevolent and courageous, the lion is empowered with magic to repel evil spirits. Keeping your armchair safe for you. less
