This Andy Warhol Estate rare vintage 1990 first edition offset lithograph print custom framed large Pop Art poster " Sarah Bernhardt " 1980, is an incredibly special and unique piece to add to your collection.
The offset lithograph print stated 1st edition fine art poster is published by Nouvelles Images S.A. Editeurs, printed in France in 1990 in an unnumbered limited edition, copyright The Estate and Foundation of Andy Warhol. It features an artwork image originally created by Warhol in 1980 titled " Ten Portraits of Jews of The Twentieth Century, Sarah Bernhardt ", courtesy Ronald Feldman Fine Arts, Inc. New York.
This is a rare opportunity for true Warhol and Bernhardt fans and collectors both as this coveted image offset lithograph print fine art poster is long out of print and very scarce to find. The official " AW " Foundation seal of authenticity is printed on the print.
Andy Warhol ( 1928 - 1987 ) is one of the most important Contemporary artists of The Twentieth Century, and " Ten Portraits of Jews of The Twentieth Century ", is arguably among his most significant series of artworks. A pantheon of great thinkers, politicians, performers, musicians, and writers, the series which was originally exhibited at The Jewish Museum New York in 1980 was first heavily criticized and quite controversial, and now many years later is considered in a new perspective as one of the artist's most formidable achievements and in many ways it represents a peak in Warhol's oeuvre. The series dubbed by Warhol as " Jewish Geniuses " includes portraits of Sarah Bernhardt, Albert Einstein, Golda Meir, Martin Buber, The Marx Brothers, Louis Brandeis, Sigmund Freud, Franz Kafka, George Gershwin, and Gertrude Stein.
Sarah Bernhardt ( 1844 - 1923 ) was a French born Jewish stage actress who starred in some of the most popular French plays of The Late 19th and Early 20th Centuries including Camille, La Tosca, and Salome among many others. She made several international theater tours around the world, and was one of the first prominent actresses to make sound recordings and to act in motion pictures, she was one of Hollywood's first movie stars and the earliest born person to date to be inducted into The Hollywood Walk of Fame with a star. She is also associated with the success of the artist Alphonse Mucha in Paris, who would become one of the most sought after artists of his time for his famous Art Nouveau style.
Sarah Bernhardt's identity as a Jewish woman elicits a greater idea of the representation of Jewish women in film, cinema and theater. The former ideas of Jewish women revolved heavily around notions of femininity and the Jewish body. However after her role in Oscar Wilde's Salome, there is a relevant shift in the way Jewish women are portrayed, and viewed throughout performance and art. Bernhardt is widely known as a modernizing force of Jewish representation and a new model of Jewish female beauty which she helped to create a new style, a new fashion, and a new identity which defines the Jewish woman for many generations to come.
The rare out of print offset lithograph print framed large Pop Art poster measures 28 3/4" W X 40 3/4" H X 1 1/2" D. It is custom framed with UV protective plexiglass in a Contemporary Modern natural white oak satin finish museum box style frame molding, with an attached hanging wire on the reverse back side for easy wall installation.
