It is a 1922 pochoir that came from the Gazette du Bon Ton, the leading French fashion publication during the early 20th century years. Pochoir is a “stencil” print process used in the early 20th century; it refers to a print that is hand printed and hand colored. Because it was a labor-intensive specialized technique, it was short lived and thus has become a collective art form. This pochoir is entitled "Les Cinq Sens-the Taste". It refers to the fifth sense of taste. The image features 2 elegantly dressed women tasting their afternoon tea. It is illustrated by Pierre Mourgue, (signed in upper left) who was a leading fashion illustrator during the early through mid-century years. Note the wonderful details and textures: the hats, jewelry, profile features, scarf and background setting! The fashion design speaks to pure luxury, elegance, and sheer beauty. It makes for wonderful home decor in a location where it can be seen up-close. Excellent clean condition. Plate size is 7.5 x 9.5 inches. Image size is 5.5. x 5.25 image. less
