This wonderful toy train was made by the R. Bliss Manufacturing Company in Pawtucket Rhode Island. It has paper lithograph images on wood and includes an engine and 3 passenger cars with an 18-piece, 2 sided puzzle inside.
The engine has been lovingly rebuilt with some found wood as evidenced by the printed text on the interior of the cab and the dovetail detail. Some of the wheels are original, some seem to be made out of game pieces and one is the end of a wooden spool. The roof of the cars removes to reveal the stored puzzle pieces.
The lithograph images on the cars and puzzle pieces are definitely distressed from good play which adds to the character of this 1880 piece of Americana.
