It was patented in 1898 by … more This is a breathtakingly beautiful antique milk glass “ Wheeling Shipping Vessel” mustard dish. It was patented in 1898 by George A. Flaccus. There are at least two other “shipping vessels”, the “Olympia” and “Oregon”, all ships of the US Navy fleet on this same patent.

E. C. Flaccus Company was a purveyor of condiments from Wheeling, West Virginia. These condiment containers were sold in General Stores.

In the 1890’s it was a common practice to leave a mustard pot on the table with the salt and pepper.

The lid is the top of the ship with the stacks, pilot and windows. The prow of the ship is embossed with “Wheeling”. The base of the dish has ocean waves, a chain and port windows. It is beautiful wonder to behold. less
