A ring shaped water mark on the seat, very slight, see last photo. Also a small piece is missing on the right side frame around the chair carving of archaic vases. Because this is such an old chair there is no way for us to detect every expert repair that may have been previously made. There was a missing side rail when we received the chair.. It has been recreated with a South American hardwood whose grain is very similar to zitan by our furniture restorer who apprenticed at Christie's in London for 15 years. Inspired by 17th century designs it is almost impossible to date exactly, as such styles have been endlessly reproduced using identical techniques. This chair has been carefully cleaned so to be on the safe side we are dating it as late 19th century.
