Italian painter Luigi De Angelis (1883-1966) captures the essence of post-war Italian countryside life in his masterpiece 'Carriages in Ischia'. Painted in 1950, this oil on canvas artwork showcases De Angelis' remarkable talent and deep connection to his homeland. Signed and dated on the lower right end, the painting is presented in a tasteful frame.
The delicate landscape depicts the tranquil beauty of the island of Ischia, Italy. De Angelis skillfully uses soft, neutral colors and employs gentle, defused brushstrokes to create a sense of depth and serenity. The artwork showcases the artist's unique ability to capture the essence of his subjects with poetic subtlety.
Size: 29" in width, 23" in height, and with a depth of 1 1/2".
Luigi De Angelis, affectionately known as Gigi, was born in Rome in 1883. Although he worked as a barber during his teenage years, he later discovered his true passion for painting. Inspired by the everyday scenes he witnessed while working, he began depicting evocative landscapes of Ischia using watercolors. His shop clients were the first to appreciate his poetic paintings, often displaying them with the help of his shave gel.
De Angelis' connection to Ischia, his ancestral home, was profound. He refused an invitation to move to France, recognizing that leaving the island would sever the intimate human relationships and inspiration he drew from the local community, including fishermen, street vendors, and the hidden aspects of the island's landscape. Instead, he exhibited his works at various public events throughout Italy.
The relationship between De Angelis and Ischia echoes that of Chagall and his village, Vitebsk. Like the renowned Russian painter, Gigi narrates his land's life and human events through his art. Each painting becomes a chapter in a profound and continuous poetic narrative, creating a rich tapestry of Ischian life.
Experience the timeless beauty and poetic depth of Luigi De Angelis' 'Carriages in Ischia' painting, an extraordinary piece that captures the essence of the Italian landscape and the spirit of a cherished artist. less
