This Andy Warhol Estate rare vintage 1989 first edition offset lithograph print custom framed large iconic exhibition poster " The Kiss " 1963, is an incredibly special and unique piece to add to your collection.
Published by The Art Institute of Chicago on the occasion of the exhibition, printed in France in 1989 in an unnumbered limited edition by Nouvelles Images S.A. Editeurs, with the authorized licensed rights of The Estate and Foundation of Andy Warhol. It features an artwork image originally created by Warhol in 1963 titled " The Kiss ( Bela Legosi ) ".
This is a rare opportunity for true Andy Warhol and Dracula fans and collector's both as this coveted image large exhibition poster is long out of print and very scarce to find. The official " AW " Foundation seal of authenticity is printed on the stated 1st edition poster.
Andy Warhol ( 1928 - 1987 ) is one of the singularly most well known Contemporary artists of all time. His imagery is recognized worldwide. His infamous life, art works, and creative endeavors are like no other artist. He is credited as the very first artist to use common everyday objects and view them in a completely different way while paying homage to their role in our society. Glorifying the common as the beautiful. His technique utilizing a silkscreen method combined with hand finishing in a signature palette of vibrant color hues make the work stand on its own and loved by millions.
In 1963 Warhol bought his first camera and began to explore the world of filmmaking, making several films including " The Kiss ", directly connected to " The Kiss ( Bela Lugosi ). The film was comprised of several close ups of different couples posed in motionless kissing. Just as the kiss of a vampire promised eternal life in death, The Kiss painting series by Warhol is a unique artwork positioned at the dawn of his exploration of the silkscreening technique that would become the hallmark of his career.
The Kiss artwork, taken from a scene from the 1931 film Dracula, The Kiss ( Bela Lugosi ) portrays acclaimed star Bela Lugosi about to bite into the neck of female protagonist, Mina, played by actress Helen Chandler. This iconic artwork image " The Kiss ", a scene from a vampire film explores concepts of cinematic immortality and Warhol's continued relationship between media and art.
The large format rare out of print 1st edition framed exhibition poster measures 27 3/4" W X 39 1/4" H X 1 3/8" D. IT is printed with special metallic silver tone ink details.
It is custom framed with UV protective plexiglass in a Contemporary Modern matte brushed finish chrome silver tone metal frame molding, with an attached hanging wire on the reverse back side for easy wall installation.
It is in excellent condition. The poster print is in excellent vintage condition consistent with age, light signs of handling, and light surface wear.
