Approaching In A Ravine" by … Read more This serigraph (screenprint) faithfully reproduces an image of frontiersmen hunters stalking buffalo, titled "Buffalo Hunt. Approaching In A Ravine" by George Catlin. The original was a stone lithograph from George Catlin's famous and incredibly rare "North American Indian Portfolio" which was first published in 1844. The original stone lithographs (if you can locate one for sale) are priced at thousands of dollars each. Catlin spent eight years among 48 Indian tribes in preparation.This print is from the 1970 limited edition portfolio. Lower quality reproductions are available but do not compare to the limited edition portfolio published by The Swallow Press/Sage Books in 1970 in an edition limited to 1000 copies. Even under magnification the prints from the 1970 portfolio compare most favorably to the originals. Outstanding detail and all are in excellent condition.
