This Andy Warhol rare vintage 1997 " In the Future Everyone will be Famous for Fifteen Minutes " offset lithograph print custom framed Pop Art iconic Burt Glinn 1965 photo poster is an incredibly special and unique piece to add to your collection.
The Pop Art photo poster is published by WCI Posters, London England, printed in The United Kingdom in 1997 in an unnumbered limited edition, design copyright 1997 WCI Posters. It features an iconic black and white photo image from 1965 by photographer Burt Glinn, image licensed to WCI courtesy of Magnum / Burt Glinn.
The expression " 15 Minutes of Fame " was inspired by Andy Warhol's famous words " In the Future Everyone will be Famous for Fifteen Minutes ". Which appeared in the program for a 1968 exhibition of his work at The Moderna Museet Museum of Modern Art in Stockholm, Sweden. While photographer Nat Finkelstein was photographing Warhol in 1965 for a book, a crowd gathered trying to get into the photos and Warhol remarked that everyone wants to be famous, to which Finkelstein replied " yeah, for about 15 minutes ". Thus the iconic quote became a Pop culture phenomenon.
Burton Samuel Glinn ( 1925 - 2008 ) was an American photographer who worked with Magnum Photos. He photographed revolutionary leader Fidel Castro's entrance into Cuba, and many famous people including Andy Warhol and Helen Farnkenthaler. Glinn's photos show such things as the social scene of the rich, and the dirtiness of politics. He was president of the Magnum Photo Agency for several terms and also served as the president of The American Society of Media Photographers. Photographs by Glinn have been published in many of the world's most important cultural and lifestyle publications.
Burt Glinn had a gift for bottling the essence of counter culture. His photos captures the style and rhythm of the time from the 1950's Beatniks to the 1960's Hippie movement. Here in this iconic image three of the 60's great artistic players - Andy Warhol with Edie Sedgwick and Chuck Wein, are photographed on a New York City street in 1965.
Edie Sedgwick ( 1943 - 1971 ) was an American actress and fashion model. She is known for being one of Andy Warhol's " Superstars ". Sedgwick became known as " The Girl of the Year " in 1965 after starring in several of Warhol's short films. She was dubbed the " It Girl , and Vogue Magazine also named her a " Youthquaker ".
Chuck Wein ( 1939 - 2008 ) was an American promoter and manager of entertainment acts whose celebrity stemmed from his association with Andy Warhol and his discovery of Edie Sedgwick. He was also a director who worked with Warhol. The years of 1965 and 1966 represented the peak period for the Warhol - Sedgwick - Wein collaboration, resulting in nine films.
