Created in China during the Qing dynasty, this compound cabinet features a smaller storage chest stacked on top of a regular sized cabinet. Compound cabinets were used for storage. The top would contain out of season clothing while the main cabinet would be used as a wardrobe for everyday use including bedding and clothes for the season. The cabinet showcases a red lacquer perfectly complimented by the gilded Chinoiserie décor that adorns its doors.
