This Raymond Loewy rare vintage 1987 Grapus silkscreen print Modernist custom framed large Paris exhibition poster is an incredibly special and unique piece to add to your collection.
The silkscreen print poster is published by The Galerie Impressions Paris, printed in France in 1987 by Imp A.G.F. St. Ouen in an unnumbered limited edition on the occasion of the exhibition, poster design by Grapus.
This is a rare opportunity for Raymond Loewy and Grapus fans and collectors both as this coveted image silkscreen print exhibition poster is long out of print and very scarce to find. A copy of this poster is held in the permanent collection of The Museum of Modern Art New York.
Raymond Loewy ( 1893 - 1986 ) was a French born American industrial designer who achieved international fame for his design efforts across a variety of industries. Loewy's creative genius was innate and his effect on the industry was revolutionary. Among his many famous designs were the logos for Shell, Exxon, TWA, BP, Nabisco, and The US Postal Service emblem. he designed the Greyhound bus, Coca - Cola bottle and vending machines, Coldspot refridgerators, Studebaker Avanti, Starliner, and Champion, Lucky Strike cigarettes package, The Air Force One livery, and many more. Loewy also left his mark designing Modernist furniture and home furnishings, and in the area of store design with the interiors of prestigious department stores he designed Saks Fifth Avenue, Macy's, Bloomingdales, and Lord & Taylor.
Proven time and again, Loewy's design principles continue to be relevant years after their inception. Today, he has rightly found his place in history as the " Father of Industrial Design ". The New York Times states that Mr. Loewy " Has indeed changed the shape of the Modern world ".
Grapus was a collective of French graphic artists and designer founded in 1968, who sought to combine excellence of design with a social conscience, who tried to bring culture to politics, and politics to culture. The work represented a dialogue between government and citizens. It's visual communication in the public square was bold and honest it was aware of its presence and its impact. Grapus remained idealists and operated collectively, all the work created at the studio was signed " Grapus ".
They had a distinctive style that provided inspiration to graphic design students all over the world through their principles. They designed many famous corporate identities including The Louvre Museum. Their work has been exhibited in many of the world's most prestigious museums. Grapus was one of the most recognized poster designers of the era and have influenced generations of designers since. This Raymond Loewy poster is one of the famous cultural works of Grapus Design.
The rare out of print large format silkscreen print framed Modernist exhibition poster measures 28 1/2" W X 40 1/2" H X 1 3/8" D. It is custom framed with UV protective plexiglass in a Contemporary Modern brushed brass matte finish metal frame molding, with an attached hanging wire on the reverse back side for easy wall installation.
It is in excellent " like new " condition. The poster print is in excellent " like new " vintage condition consistent with age and light signs of handling.
