Description: Expert carving makes this English Chippendale style side chair stand out, not to mention the wood patina. It was acquired … more Expert carving makes this English Chippendale style side chair stand out, not to mention the wood patina. It was acquired at auction. It dates from early to mid 20th century,

The detailing is fantastic: cupids-bow crest centering a carved shell and scrolled ears over a pierced strapwork splat headed by rocaille carving. The seat shape is trapezoidal and upholstered in cream/off white silk upholstery, over a shaped seat rail, raised on cabriole front legs with stylized acanthus knee carving that ends in ball-and-claw feet. The attraction of this chair is the carving detail and the deep chocolate patina of the wood. The seat is covered in an acceptable--traditional low-pile type silk velour, but could definitely be replaced. A special chair, nonetheless!
