Add a touch of Chicago history to your decor with this beautiful pair of antique cast bronze emblematic lion door knobs from the Stevens Hotel, now known as the Chicago Hilton. These fine quality door knobs once adorned the halls of the amazing Stevens Hotel designed in the classic Beaux-Arts style. When the doors opened in 1927 it was proclaimed the largest and most opulent hotel in the world until the 1960s and cost an astronomical 27 million dollars to build at the time. The stylish and lavishly decorated hotel drew many presidents, famous diplomats, dignitaries and celebrities throughout it's early days and still continues to do so. This iconic architectural gem still stands proudly on Chicago's Magnificent Mile and remains a testament to those glorious days long gone by.
These rare knobs depict a rearing lion in the center and are highly decorated with a ribbon and laurel leaf motif. The hardware was designed and manufactured by Sargent Hardware, New Haven, CT. Circa: 1927. The set includes two knobs, two rosettes, one cylinder lock rim and a threaded 1/4” spindle that allows for the knobs to be easily adjusted to fit a door from 1" to 2" thick. The set is in excellent antique condition with a nice patina. The large rosette has been re-gilded, otherwise the other surfaces shows normal wear from age and many years of use. The original Stevens Hotel key fob shown in one of the photos is not included with this purchase but is currently available in our listings. This set listed is unconditionally guaranteed to be authentic as described.
