This rare vintage 1961 Mid Century Danish Modern lithograph print Viggo Vagnby custom framed iconic Denmark travel poster " Wonderful Copenhagen " 1959, is an incredibly special and unique piece to add to your collection.
The lithograph print travel poster is published by The Tourist Association of Copenhagen, printed in Denmark in 1961 in an unnumbered limited edition by J. CHR. Sorensen & Co. A/S Copenhagen. It features an iconic artwork image created by Viggo Vagnby in 1959.
Viggo Vagnby ( 1896 - 1966 ) The Danish born French trained painter was a well known draftsman, exhibition designer, and advertising graphic designer in Denmark. He was especially known for his Modernist style tourist posters in a simplified form, and often with a twinkle in his creative eye, he would highlight a characteristic element of a region, city, or town.
His most famous poster, which is considered to be the most iconic of all Danish travel posters, is titled " Wonderful Copenhagen ". Vagnby's success and adoration of his Modernist poster design work is attributed to the special way he created iconic images of Denmark, which not only tourists would see and enjoy but also the Danes themselves.
The rare out fo print Mid Century Danish Modern lithograph print framed travel poster measures 25 1/4" W X 40" H X 1 3/8" D. It is custom framed with UV protective plexiglass in a Contemporary Modern matte brushed finish black metal frame molding, with an attached hanging wire on the reverse back side for easy wall installation.
It is in excellent condition. The poster print is in excellent vintage condition consistent with age, use, light signs of handling, and some light visible surface wear.
