Excellent Pre-Owned Condition.
In the 1950s, Anchor Hocking introduced the color forest green, which proved to be one of the most successful colors for the company and was made well into the mid 1960s. Beverage sets were also a mainstay for Anchor Hocking. The “roly-poly” pitcher shape was introduced during the Depression years. The look may have been tweaked from time-to-time such as a textured pattern, changing the handle, etc. but the round shape was a constant. Roly-poly was made in two colors, forest green and royal ruby. Four sizes and shapes of tumblers/glasses were made that matched the pitcher. This set includes the flat tapered tumbler shape, six in all, along with the roly-poly pitcher with its banded collar, thick curved ribbed handle and ice lip. In excellent condition with little to no visible ownership use wear. The pitcher has random straw marks, original to the manufacturer as a result of manufacturing process. One of the straw marks is a bit more prominent in certain light, located on the upper front (see photo 8) that in no way detracts from its beauty and function. The pitcher’s official capacity is 96 oz. but it will comfortably accommodate about 106 oz. It measures 9” x 9” H/W; 4” base diameter; weight 2 lbs. 13 oz. Each tumbler is 4¼” x 2” H/D; official capacity 9 oz. but will accommodate 10 oz. to the rim; weight 6 oz. apiece; medium is pressed glass; color forest green. An eye catching set that is bound to be the center of attention at your next gathering!
