Very large and substantial, stunning early mid century Japanese hand made solid wood 4 panel dual sided room divider. This piece is amazing! We acquired it from a very wealthy Japanese family that had an immaculate estate in Pasadena, CA. They were collectors of amazing vintage and Vintage pieces...all directly from Japan. Each panel has wooden frame work with spaces between the wood work and the central thick glass panels. The two ending panels have pagoda style extensions on the wood. Each of the four panels has a unique, hand painted scene with the base of the glass being black with metallic metal flakes for extra shine when the light hits! The painted scenes include a cherry blossom tree branch, floral arrangements, and bamboo. They are adorned with small metallic gold details, textured elements, and geometric bordering shapes. The designs are simple and elegant, yet full of detail. Each glass panel is signed by the artist. The backsides of the panels are solid black glass with beautiful metallic flecks. A real statement piece for your mid century home that can be folded when not in use. Many of Japan's greatest artists created paintings for folding screens such as this one and they are known as byobu, which literally means "protection from wind". In addition to providing protection from wind, folding screens serve as attractive room dividers, enclosing and demarcating private spaces in the open interiors of Japanese palaces, temples, shrines, and elite homes. Now this one-of-a-kind piece of Japanese art and history can be in your home!
