This delightful cutie belonged to my mom and it became mine several years ago. While lovely to look at and substantial in size, I’ve not used it. Handcrafted and painted by Metlox Pottery, it is part of their Poppytrail Red Rooster Collection, Pattern 390. The cookie jar made its debut in 1955 and then in 1956, a full line of solid colored red orange with brown trim dinnerware and serveware was introduced. In excellent condition with minimal use wear. There are three firing pin marks on the underside and a few spots on the interior bottom that are part of the glaze as a result of the manufacturing process. It measures 10” high with lid on and 7¾” with lid off; top and base diameter 7”; interior depth 7½”; weight 3 lbs. 12 oz.; medium is highly glazed earthenware in a pale sand color with brown trim; rooster is red orange, brown and yellow; wooden lid is mid-tone walnut in color with earthenware brown finial handle. Makers mark along with the signature of the artist who hand painted this cutie is underneath. The perfect piece for someone who enjoys collecting Metlox Pottery or cookie jars or perhaps a gift for someone who does.
