This Andy Warhol and Jean Michel Basquiat rare vintage 1997 lithograph print custom framed Pop Art exhibition poster " F**K You Dentures " 1984 - 1985, is an incredibly special and unique piece to add to your collection.
The lithograph print Pop Art exhibition poster is published by the famous Gagosian Gallery New York, printed in 1997 in an unnumbered limited edition on the occasion of the exhibition. It features a collaborations artwork image originally created by Warhol and Basquiat in 1984 - 1985 titled " F**k You Dentures ", copyright 1997 The Andy Warhol Foundation for Visual Arts.
Andy Warhol ( 1928 - 1987 ) and Jean Michel Basquiat ( 1960 - 1988 ) first met in 1982 and their collaborative work really began a couple years later. At Basquiat's dealer, Bruno Bischofberger's suggestion, Warhol and Basquiat began a series of collaborative paintings after what amounted to the brotherhood of the traveling canvas between Basquiat, Warhol and Italian artist Francesco Clemente.
The rules were simple, each artist was to begin three separate paintings and one drawing each. They would leave enough " mental & physical space " for the other artists to contribute to the paintings, and the next person would begin to tell their story, apropos of nothing but their own imagination.
The three artists continued this experience between them for about a year, and in late 1984 Warhol and Basquiat began secretly collaborating on their own. Warhol was inspired by Basquiat's energy and youth, and Basquiat had always idolized Warhol. During the collaborations, Warhol would usually be the one surprisingly to begin the painting. He would often silkscreen a recognizable logo or product onto the canvas, which Basquiat would promptly write of paint over, leaving his own trademark graffiti style on the work, creating a dialogue between the two personalities and aesthetics of each artist.
The rare out of print framed Pop Art exhibition poster measures 24 1/2" W X 18 1/4" H X 1" D. It is custom framed with UV protective plexiglass in a Contemporary Modern satin finish black metal frame molding, with an attached hanging wire on the reverse back side for easy wall installation.
