Monogrammed center left, 'PT' for Pearl Took (American, 1928-2012); additionally signed, dated 1977 and titled verso 'Portrait of Jade' with artist card.
After winning London County Council Art Scholarship Awards, Pearl Took studied Skipton Art School (1943-7) and, subsequently, at Sir John Cass College (1947-9). After immigrating to Pasadena, California in 1957 with her family, Took started an active career in painting in 1961, becoming a teacher at Pasadena City College and Glendale College. She continued to further her studies at California State College, Los Angeles, the Art Center of Design and the Otis Art Institute of Parsons School of Design.
Took exhibited successfully, both solo and with groups, in Los Angeles County throughout her teaching career in addition to working as a free lance illustrator for the Pasadena Star News.
