The crustaceans were painted in the whimsical and traditional "xieyi" (or impressionistic style) with swift, definite and spontaneous brush strokes. Wire-like strokes were used to draw the claws, fine flowing lines were used for the antennas, and quick brush work was used for the walking legs and swimmerets. Ink wash painting uses tonality and shading achieved by varying the ink density, both by differential grinding of the ink stick in water and by varying the ink load and pressure within a single brushstroke. For those of you who find beauty in ordinary things...this painting is a great example of balance between real and unreal. The beautiful writing that sprawls down one side is referring to a specific festival and location and is describing it very poetically, ending with the artist's signature. It is professionally matted and framed, protected by the frames glass, and has a universal wire on the backside for easy hanging on any wall. The frame is also substantial and large enough that you could display it by leaning it against a wall from the ground or from a countertop.
