Flourishing in technique and trend from the middle of … more Vintage French Aubusson Rug with Romantic Rococo Style 09'00 x 12'02. Flourishing in technique and trend from the middle of the 17th century for nearly two hundred years, until the early 20th century, this hand-woven wool vintage French Aubusson rug is a classic example of French romanticism. Taking center stage is an oval medallion patterned with a rose bouquet comprised of cabbage roses, peonies, floral sprigs, rose buds and delicate leaves extending outwards. The center medallion is outlined with acanthus scrollwork while the ecru hued field is covered in an all-over complementary opulent frondescence pattern. Each corner is adorned with a rose bouquet, trompe l'oeil filigree, and acanthus vine scroll. Characterized by predominate French influence with its ornate florals, the intricate borders of rinceaux and winding arrangements of garnished foliage and stylized floral bouquets enclose this captivating work of art. The embellishments alone are sufficiently captivating, but the use of color is extraordinary. The colors join to create a truly compelling dance, and inaudibly speak with a timeless voice that is characterized by sensual decadence, as well as by stately action. All facets of this piece collectively entwine to form the striking and grand charm of a textile that is worthy to depict the tender, emotive, and vibrant details of humans and histories, no longer known. Embodying a refined Savonnerie Rococo style and drawing inspiration from Louis XIV, this vintage Aubusson rug will enliven nearly any opulent period-interior with color and vitality.
