This dinnerware set comes to you by way of hands down the most influential sitcoms in history...I Love Lucy! This quintessential 1950's mid century set includes 20 pieces by Brock Of California company in the rare and collectible California Farmhouse pattern. This adorable set was quite an exciting find! These pieces are very rare and this set includes: 7 big dinner plates, 2 extra large round serving platters, 1 large serving bowl, 1 extra large three-sectioned tray, 1 rounded dish with lid, 4 mugs, creamer and sugar lidded jars, 1 rectangular serving plate, and 1 rectangular serving bowl. The three-sectioned huge serving platter is extremely rare and has a "tree of life" pattern in the center section. It's depressed design of tree trunk and branches allows meat juices flow to flow into the lower well (large depressed area at the base of the tree). The pieces depict different 1950's hand painted farm scenes and animals in yellow, red, green, and brown with ombre sunshine yellow rims. If it looks familiar it is because these nostalgic / collectible Americana dishes were features on I Love Lucy in S2, #67 6/29/53 when viewers got a rare opportunity to see the Mertzes' kitchen. Apparently the set of the Ricardo's kitchen could be used, with some modifications, as the Mertz kitchen. If you look at the listing photos we have attached some screen captures.
Southern California Pottery Company, Inc. aka B. J. Brock Company was located in Lawndale, California. Founded in 1947 by Bert Brock, the company closed in the mid 1950s. Brock's California Farmhouse dinnerware had a kitschy and ultra mid century country theme. The company was short lived and this pattern was made in very small quantities.
This special set is a real piece of Americana history and will not only be lovely mid-century modern decor....but a conversation starter too!
