It was crusty looking and aged looking and thats how i should have left it. This is the real thing. Back in the 1800s in China a barber would walk to the streets with a bamboo pole and this chair to do hair cuts. You would sit on it with your feet on the ground. It left the person at the right height for a shave or pony tale oil, or hair cut. The stool has 4 wooden drawers built into it, two in the back, and two on the side. When you were done, you would get up and drop the money into the slot on top and the next person would sit for the hair cut. The wood was dull, so i polished it and then realized after i was done this piece is really old and someone took great care of it. I lived abroad for 10 years in the orient and knew what this was the minute it showed up at our shop. I have not seen one since the early 1980s. It is solid, in mint condition, and ready to find a new home. I am pricing this lower than the ones i found online to move it quicker. They sold on one internet platform for close to $2000. I tried to lock down a time frame, so i brought it to a local furniture dealer of high end stuff, and yes it is probably 1850s-1900s. Tradition would have a bamboo pole with it to hang a towel on to use as a neck protector or aid in the shave, but this piece is So Amazing. less
