This really is a Great Looking - Very Unique and Unusual Antique Tobacco - Cigar Humidor. Circa Late 19th Century. It is Completely Hand Made Made - Most Likely a Custom Made - One of a Kind Piece. It is Made Out of Solid Oak with Wonderful Hand Carved Features that Includes Griffins at All 4 Corners. I do believe that This Piece was Constructed Out Repurposed Wood that is Actually Quite a Bit Older than When it was Used in the Making of this Box. Possibly from a Old Piece of Furniture or Possibly Interior Architectural Decorative Wood Removed from a Very Old House. I am Sure that it was Made - Constructed here in The United States but it Is Very Possible that The Wood - Oak Used is Actually Originally from England or France. Note that The interior is Fitted - lined with Milk Glass Panels with Mahogany Trim. It also has a Very Nice Quality Nickel Plated Brass "Piano" Style Hinge. It has a Functional Locking Mechanism that Comes With its Original Key. The Outer Surfaces Appear to be in a Natural Wood State - No Varnish - Possibly Just Oiled or Bees Waxed with a Open Grain that Gives it a Very Interesting Color - Rustic Texture & Patina.
