This is a nice example of artist, Elizabeth Bensley's enamel work from the late 1940s displayed beautifully on a wooden box. Note that the box top does not stay open at an angle as the hinges may suggest; it folds over and lays flat on a surface, as one of the images indicates.
The enamel is in nice, vintage condition, with crazing from age to the left burgundy panel. The vibrant colors of the enamel, along with the details of the wood itself including thin-blade box joints, combine to make this piece an exceptional decorative object that is additionally a practical storage compartment for jewelry / smaller items. less
