Handsome, well-made, nicely proportioned and in excellent condition are hallmark keywords used confidently when describing this mid-century modern German made commode (circa 1970's). This all wood chest of drawers has an antiqued matte polished walnut veneer with a matching but glossy formica top sheet. The outer face of the cabinet has an overlay molding design of rounded strips that border and surround the 9 drawer baroque quatrefoil drawer pulls. Each of the metal pulls has a knocker style handle that has a quatrefoil shaped backplate that is finished in an antiqued bronze tone. Precision engineered construction is highlighted by its 9 drawers that have tongue in groove assembly and slide on easy smooth and non-hesitating center wood rails and metal clasp gliders. The front panels of the drawers are approximately 3/4" and its side back and bottom panels are approx.1/3" thick round edged at the top. The front panels have veneer finishing on the front facing sides and are stained in a dark brown on the top and side ridges while the rest of the wood remains natural and nude but smooth.
This piece of furniture is made in Germany by a manufacturer unknown as there are no signatures discoverable. Baroque Revival by design, Mid Century Modern by era and considered heirloom quality by those who encounter it. This is part of a bedroom set that includes a high boy dresser, two tilting dresser mirrors, a single nightstand and queen sized headboard.
