Lithograph
This wonderful and humorous lithograph by the great 19th century master of the caricature cartoon, Honore Daumier, is represented in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the National Gallery of Art, and many others. Published in Charivari on September 17, 1857, Daumier here is ridiculing the then-current Second Empire fad for extremely large and billowing crinoline skirts taking hold of Paris.
This lithograph is in excellent condition, better than those examples in major museums, and was sold by the distinguished print seller, Walter Schatzki of 57th Street in New York in the mid-20th century. less
