The 7 coins on the bottom are marked 10 Francs Maroc, Empire cherified with 1366 inside the circle. The lid slides on and off. There are no makers marks that I could find. The case not including the the coins measures 9 inches tall by 9 inches wide, with the coins it is 11 inches tall. It weighs almost 1.5 pounds. I would say this is Moroccan made since Morocco is defined by a confluence of influences ranging from religion, geography and culture. It's occupation of the French and Spanish, the conquests of the Moors and their Muslim culture, the fact that they are in Africa, across from Europe and also the Middle East. This naturally fosters creativity and artistry which this piece certainly is. It is in excellent handmade condition. I left the worn and faded cord with the tassels on since it came with the piece. less
