This three-seat daybed was designed by Gianni Songia for Sormani, Italy, in 1963.
Model GS-195 with leather cushions.
Rare Italian daybed designed by Gianni Songia for Sormani in 1963. The elegant frame is built from rosewood, can be used as an extremely comfortable three-seat sofa with adjustable backrest. The seating area has three rectangular cushions in soft comfortable orange leather. The backrest can also slide backwards which then transforms the piece into a comfortable bed. This daybed is in good original condition for it's age with small traces of use and slight fading, some scratches as can been seen in the images.
The backrest can be adapted to make it a daybed
Italian designer Gianni Songia created the 'GS-195' sofa or daybed in 1963. The all-black design brings the focus on the rather special forms of the daybed. The circular backrest with thick leather upholstery is adjustable in height. Therefore the sofa can be turned and used as a daybed. The seat is upholstered with three cushions that provide great comfort. Two sculptural feet lift the sofa up that combines elegance with functionality and characterizes this unique design by Gianni Songia.
Sormani was founded in Arosio (Como, Italy) in 1961 by Luigi Sormani, at the age of twenty-nine. It quickly became one of the most innovative firms in Italian furniture design. From the early 60s until the end of the 80s, Sormani produced extraordinary objects with the concept of “total living” in mind. Using innovative materials and techniques, the factory in Arosio created modular furniture, freestanding pieces, functional pieces, chairs, lamps, carpets and accessories that became an integral part of iconic Italian design history.
