This Jean Cocteau rare vintage 1973 Mourlot lithograph print custom framed Modernist exhibition poster is an incredibly special and unique piece to add to your collection.
The fine art lithograph print exhibition poster is published by The Jacques Damase Gallery Bruxelles, printed in France in 1973 by the printing house of Mourlot Imp. Arts, in an unnumbered limited edition on the occasion of the exhibition in Belgium. It features an artwork image created by Jean Cocteau, copyright J. Damase.
The venerable famous printing house of Imprimerie Mourlot Paris was founded in 1852 by the Mourlot family. It is known worldwide for its fine art lithography printing, and one of their most important contributions was to be the art poster. Mourlot became the place where posters were prepared and produced as works of art in their own right.
Jean Maurice Eugene Clement Cocteau ( 1889 - 1963 ) was a French poet, playwright, novelist, designer. filmmaker, visual artist and critic. he preferred to be called a poet, classifying the great variety of his works - poems, novels, plays, essays, drawings, films - as " Poesie ", Poesie de Roman ", Poesie de Theatre ", " Poesie Critique ", " Poesie Graphique " and " Poesie Cinematographique ". Cocteau is considered to be one of the most important exponents of Avant - Garde Art, he had a great influence on the work of other important artists.
Jacques Damase ( 1930 - 2014 ) was a French publisher and famous gallery owner. he created his publishing house at the age of 17, making him the youngest publisher in the world of the time. He published the works of Jean Cocteau, jean Paul Satre, Paul Eluard, and Charlie Chaplin. His own books included studies on the works of Braque, Chagall, Picasso, Calder, Max Ernst, and Sonia and Robert Delaunay. Damase is one of the few publishers to have had exhibitions of his books in major international libraries and museums including The Centre Pompidou Paris. His famous gallery exhibited the artworks of Le Corbusier, jean Cocteau, Jim Dine, Hans Arp, and Sonia Delaunay among others.
The rare out of print fine art lithograph print framed Modernist exhibition poster measures 18 1/2" W X 29 3/4" H X 1" D. It is custom framed with UV protective plexiglass in a Contemporary Modern navy marine blue matte eggshell finish wood frame molding, with an attached hanging wire on the reverse back side for easy wall installation.
It is in excellent " like new " condition. The poster print is in excellent " like new " very clean vintage condition with light signs of handling.
