Born in Japan during the late Edo period, (1600–1868) the religious Asian antique having a rectangular ebonized wooden top with highly desirable overhang, above black and red lacquer decorated solid wood frame accented by gilded gold openings, all in a lustrous, warm patina, and adorned with engraved gilt metal plaques, scalloped shaped apron, rising on cabriole legs, scroll feet, integral base with bracket feet, raised atop an additional stand. Larger examples such as this indicate it likely came from a large temple.

Acquired from the estate of a Houston Socialite who enjoyed a long career in modeling, both nationally and internationally. She loved and studied interior design and fashion, and was well known for her pristine style.
