A soft impressionist oil painting on canvas by Shirley Petersen. This piece depicts a forest of lush green and yellow Autumn Ferns. It is presented in a pale blue frame with metallic details and a hanging wire at back for easy installation. Titled "Ouray" and signed at back by the artist, 1981.
This piece originally hung in the Frontier Federal Savings & Loan in Ponca City, Oklahoma in the 1980s. This was a significant period in Oklahoma's banking history, and for oil and gas in general, as it was just after the fall of the Penn Square Bank, which led to the crash of the oil market.
About the Artist:
Shirley Petersen has won numerous awards in oil and watercolor. Shirley's painting coney a feeling many of us share and most of us relate to. Having grown up in the Midwest it is easy to understand why Shirley's paintings reflect the "down-home" rural influence that they do. With her delicate brush, Shirley transforms the simplest subjects into permanent reflections of our everyday lives, It is this "close to the earth" artistic feeling that attracts the viewer. But it is also this easy feeling that makes Shirley's paintings restful art that we all can live with and enjoy day after day for years to come. Shirley was a dedicated instructor for the Ponca City Art Association. Her paintings hang in private and corporate collections throughout the Mid-west.
