Born in France at the end of the reign of King Louis XVI, this tall trumeau mirror features a linear frame made of natural wood, surrounding a pastoral scene original to the piece. Bathed in a golden light, the scene depicts a man and a woman standing in front of a stream. An arched bridge leads our eye through the composition while the diagonal of the tree focuses our attention on the golden sky. The painting is adorned with bead and reel motifs on its inner frame, while its lowest section is decorated with a carved gilded urn with foliage. The sides, highlighted with pilasters, visually connect the upper to the lower section, presenting the mirror plate. With its large proportions and original pastoral scene, this Louis XVI trumeau mirror circa 1790 will be a great focal point in any home, perhaps hung above a credenza, enfilade or console table.
