Born in Provence at the end of the reign of France's last Emperor Napoleon III, this jardinière reflects its influence of the Medici Vase. This bell-shaped krater features a large lip adorned with waterleaf motifs, overhanging the belly adorned with well-worn low-relief carved scenes, and comprising two handles. The lower part of the body is accented with gadroons, while the ensemble is resting on a square base with canted corners. Its charming weathered appearance reminds us of its time spent outdoors and of the effects that the provençal sun had on the piece. With its nice proportions and lovely patina, this French stone jardinière, circa 1870 will enliven any décor beautifully, particularly in a garden or on a patio. See less
