Baluster form, raised and with a wide top opening
Handles at both sides with stylized Acanthus-leaf motif
Well marked on the underside - ASHWORTH and 28, incised and underglaze. Also marked with underglaze blue character marks - 4 M and V
Made by Ashworth Brothers of Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire. The Broad Street Works of Hanley has an extensive and well-recorded history. The factory was opened in the early 1700's, rebuilt in 1815, and acquired by George Ashworth in 1862, purchased for his sons. The production became known as George Ashworth & Brothers (Geo. L. Ashworth & Bros.) and remained this way until 1883. Much later, during the 1960's, the Hanley factory became a part of Mason's
Antique, circa 1863-1883, but most likely from Ashworth's early period of production
