Description: Vintage solid brass basket, hand crafted and hammered in Iran. The art form of hammering has been common in Iran … more Vintage solid brass basket, hand crafted and hammered in Iran. The art form of hammering has been common in Iran since 5000 B.C. This piece was created with their age old method.....First the copper sheets are created and cut, then the copper is heated in a kiln, then the pieces are shaped and hammered to perfection, and finally they are polished and layers of tin can be added at this point. This dying coppersmith craft has been passed on from fathers to sons but unfortunately, the industry of hammering is being outdated due to modernization of the society and out of the many coppersmiths there are only a few left. We were glad to acquire this increasingly rare piece. Although it is solid copper the outer portion has a warm silver tone. The inside has a warm copper coloring. It has a modern and unique shape and would make for perfect storage / basket or would look great as a planter. The entire body is hand hammered giving it a truly stunning texture.
