A favorite pastime of mine is collecting gorgeously cool glass; pitchers, tankards, decanters, pedestal cake stands, butter dishes and sugar and creamer sets. From EAPG to American Brilliant to contemporary, it matters not, but the pieces must be unique or showstoppers. I would say that this beauty falls into the category of being whimsically unique. Purchased from a local antique dealer who is now retired and no longer in business, who indicated it was an Eastern European decanter from the 1920s. There is no makers mark to be found, so it could be Czech but there is no way to tell definitively. The charming raised enamel hand painted motif of florals and foliates in red, blue, green and yellow is vibrant and in pristine condition. The simplicity of the pattern contrasts sharply with the ornate gilded patterns most often associated with Eastern European blown glassware of this period, which is what sets it apart. The juxtaposition of a long and slender applied handle with a large and bulbous stopper works well with the overall look-and-feel of the decanter; stopper is original to the decanter. The pedestal base is also applied and without ornamentation. It measures 15” x 6” x 5” H/W/D (height with stopper); height without stopper 11½”; circumference 17”; handle length 6¾”; weight with stopper 2 lbs. 3 oz.; stopper alone weighs 8 oz.; the decanter is handcrafted from clear blown glass; stopper is crafted from moulded heavy pressed glass. In excellent condition with minimal use wear. There is the typical friction mark on the interior of the neck where the stopper has been removed and reinserted over the years. Its boho chic appeal will complement any style you have going and add a dose of charm to any table setting or bar setup. It's a perfect addition for a collector of enameled decanters, as well.
